Constraining the physical properties of the first lensed <i>z</i> ∼ 9 − 16 galaxy candidates with <i>JWST</i>

ABSTRACT The first deep-field observations of the JWST have immediately yielded a surprisingly large number very high redshift candidates, pushing frontier observability well beyond z ≳ 10. We here present detailed SED-fitting analysis 10 gravitationally lensed ∼ 9–16 galaxy candidates detected behind cluster SMACS J0723.3−7327 in previous paper using BEAGLE tool. Our makes use dynamical considerations to place limits on ages these galaxies and all three published SL models account for lensing systematics. find majority relatively low stellar masses $M_{\star }\sim 10^7-10^8\, \mathrm{M}_{\odot }$ young tage 10–100 Myr but with few higher mass exceptions ($M_{\star 10^9\rm{-}10^{10}\, }$) due Balmer-break detections at 9–10. Because their blue UV-slopes, down β −3, our sample extremely dust attenuations AV ≲ 0.02. Placing measured parameters into relation, we shallow M⋆ − MUV-slope sSFRs above main sequence star formation no significant redshift-evolution either relation. This is agreement bright UV luminosities objects indicates that are naturally selecting UV-bright undergoing intense time they observed. Finally, discuss robustness high-redshift regarding low-redshift interlopers conclude solutions can safely be ruled out roughly half sample, including highest 12–16. These represent compelling targets spectroscopic follow-up ALMA.
